Outline Development Plan
Aims - To create a welcoming and safe environment where all members of the community, including minority ethnic groups and those with disabilities, can enjoy rides on the trains
- To educate children & their families about our industrial heritage, particularly our railways and heavy industries.
- To support fund raising & other activities in Exhibition Park
- To encourage all types of model engineering and the manufacturing skills that are needed to manufacture models both from the past and present.
Over the next 5 years the club wishes to build on the work already completed, (i.e. the installation of a 7¼” & 5” ground level track) with a number of projects to achieve our aims.
Current Barriers - No toilet facilities
- No disabled access for members to the club facilities
- No disabled provision for passenger carrying
- High probability of vandalism to site facilities
- No barriers between of public/members only areas to ensure health & safety of visitors on the site
Projects - New fencing to the site within the park to prevent unauthorised access when trains and other machinery are in operation.
- Improved soft landscaping to improve visual impact
- Public access direct from the south side of the site to the ground level station area to include disabled access & compliance with DDA.
- Passenger trucks to include disabled access
- Secure storage for rolling stock(preferably masonry built due to vandalism threat)
- Safe disabled access to the site for members (road around museum very potholed)
- Toilet facilities for members to include DDA provision
- New secure clubhouse/workshop DDA compliant, to replace present wooden structures that have reached the end of their life, have suffered due to vandalism and are a potential fire risk.
- Installation of barriers to ensure safe movement of public on the site
- Continuation of the development of the ground level railway with the installation of more tracks, sidings and signalling etc. to attract more users and improve their experience.
